The ETO sterilizer typically performs four main stages:
Controls temperature, humidity, and air circulation
Raises product moisture and temperature to improve sterilization efficiency
Chamber is vacuumed to remove air
ETO gas (pure ETO or ETO mixed with CO₂/N₂) enters the chamber
Gas penetrates packaging and kills microorganisms
Process is controlled by PLC to ensure accurate pressure, temperature, and exposure time
After sterilization, multiple vacuum and ventilation cycles remove residual gas
Ensures safe ETO concentration before unloading
Some products require additional aeration in a separate chamber
Reduces residual ethylene oxide to regulatory safety limits
